My mother in law ordered a cake for my husband's 30th birthday party. When we got down to having the cake it was dry and the cream was very oily. She was very upset with how it turned out, so I called the bakery and placed a complaint and was told I would get a call from the owner. Never got a call and threw the cake I kept out because it was getting moldy. Was going to show the cake to the owner. For the price we paid not worth it.

Recently I ordered a cake for my Mother’s retirement from Top of the Hill bakery situated in Orleans, Ottawa. Along with my wife, I spent many hours designing the cake, the individual details that would make this a standout piece at her party, than meet with the owner of the bakery, Mr. Jeff, provided him with exact details of what is to be on the cake, had him agree that the design is appropriate and more importantly accomplishable, sent him a follow up e-mail to ensure that everything was understood by him and his staff, later in the week made a follow up phone call also to ensure that everything is on track and after I did all this, the result was:

What was present to me upon arrival at the bakery did not in any way shape or form reflect what was ordered and comprehensively discussed with the owner. I will add for completeness, that I was absolutely livid with the owner and his response was to threaten me with Police action if I did not exit his bakery immediately, due to vivid expression of my disappointment. Things did get ugly. He did eventually admit to my wife, who was much calmer than me, this was for my Mom, so my emotions run high, that he “screwed it up”. Later he also admitted that he had several other cakes (weeding) to do, so what can be extrapolated from this remark is that my $500 was not worth his time or effort. I must also add that Mr. Jeff was a former acquaintance of mine, so his extremely poor engagement in this project was an extreme disappointment to me.

They are the best in town, the help that I got was impressive; no hesitation to do a special order for what I need; LOVE that place and Molly was so nice with the customers especially me

Absolutely horrible, astonishingly horrible, I was flabbergasted. I do need to add that this cake, 500$ worth was ordered well in advance and this was not a time pressure sensitive issue.

Absolutely horrendous. We ordered our white chocolate cheesecake about 1 week in advance for my birthday (Pretty simple order right?). Now I don't know if they were having a bad day of if they just didn't care enough to put any effort into making it but my cake was overcooked, very dry and crumbled every time I took a piece. It was not creamy and smooth as promised or advertised like what they had in the window. Its to bad this seem to be a place that cooks to advertise but when it comes to the real deal they fumble. The local grocery stores frozen section offers better/tastier cheesecakes than they do. Sadly they came recommended but there is no way in hell I will be returning here as this was a complete waste of my time and money.

If Mr. Jeff takes issue with any off the above, a full paper trial of evidence/fact is preserved.

I should have taken it as a bad omen when I purchased a cinnamon swirll and it tasted like someone had accidentally used salt instead of sugar which was confirmed by staff when I asked a staff member who admitted rhat the chef who tasted it actually vomited...i was not offered a replacement... I spent 120 dollars on a cake for my son's birthday. The cake was not what was described and worse than that...it was dry and tasteless. I could have purchased a slab cake at Costco for about 40 bucks and it would have been happier with the quality.

I will definitely not be using or recommending his services anymore and it appears to me that he is much more proficient doing “show off cakes” for advertising purposes than paying much attention to the individual client request(s).
